Diet for Kidney Disease

Maintaining a healthy diet is one of the most effective ways controlling Kidney Disease.   Foods that are high in salt will cause the body of a normal individual to hold onto extra fluid.  This fluid will be expelled in a day or two.   But for those with Kidney Damage, the elimination of this excess fluid will not happen as easily.

Therefore a Kidney Disease Diet should be low in sodium.   Pratically, this means reducing or eliminating foods such as cured meats, cheeses, pickled or canned foods and processed food.

A simple step towards more healthy kidneys is to increase the amount of natural fruit and vegetables you have – all of which is low in sodium.

The key with this diet is reducing Sodium – think about using herbs and spices that don’t contain sodium to add flavor to foods.
